Abstract

Abstract Welding is one of the most popular and commonly used methods for joining construction metals such as aluminum, steel, and iron in the manufacturing industry, including the aerospace sector. In the welding process, several factors must be considered to obtain optimal welding results, and one of the most important factors is the variation of welding current. In the aircraft industry, aluminum is widely used due to its lightweight, high strength, corrosion, resistance.

This final project discusses the effect of welding current variations on the tensile strength and hardness of aluminum 6061, which was welded using currents of 30 A, 50 A, and 70 A. The welded specimens were then tested using tensile and hardness tests. The tensile test data showed variations among the three welding processes using different currents. Welding with a current of 30 A produced the highest tensile stress value of 243.318 N/mm², followed by the highest strain value obtained from welding with currents of 30 A and 50 A, both showing a strain of 0.021 mm. The highest modulus of elasticity was found in the welding process with a current variation of 30 A, amounting to 12,402.144 N/mm². Furthermore, in the Rockwell hardness test, the highest hardness value was found in the specimen welded with a current variation of 30 A, which was 19.300 HR. It can be concluded that using a current of 30 A in welding aluminum 6061 provides the highest tensile stress, strain, and modulus of elasticity values. The hardness test also showed that the highest HR value occurred in the welding process with a current of 30 A.

Based on the obtained data, it can be concluded that each current variation in the welding of aluminum 6061 produces different strengths. The results for the 30 A current variation have the highest average values of modulus of elasticity, tensile stress, strain, and hardness.
