Generasi pertama komunikasi seluler (1G) sebenarnya baru dimulai kurang lebih 40 tahun yang lalu. Pada fase awal ini, panggilan telepon seluler (nirkabel) sudah dapat dilakukan antar perangkat komunikasi, meskipun masih ditemukan beberapa keterbatasan teknologi, termasuk masalah keamanan jaringan dan sistem. Generasi berikutnya membawa kemajuan signifikan dan peningkatan dalam diversifikasi layanan. Saat ini, dunia sudah dihadapkan pada era generasi kelima teknologi komunikasi seluler (5G), meskipun mayoritas infrastruktur yang digunakan masih bertumpu pada pendahulunya (4G). Kekhawatiran tentang keamanan jaringan 5G menjadi topik utama di seluruh penjuru dunia, khususnya setelah pemerintah Amerika Serikat memboikot salah satu raksasa industri 5G, yaitu Huawei, terkait masalah keamanan informasi yang berhubungan erat dengan kebijakan pemerintah Cina. Ditambahkan, teknologi 5G memiliki potensi besar untuk diterapkan dalam dunia militer, yang memungkinkan komunikasi yang lebih cepat, lebih aman, dan lebih efisien dalam penggunaan pada operasi militer. Artikel ini membahas fitur-fitur utama teknologi 5G dan kompleksitas serta pentingnya keamanan jaringan 5G dan potensi ancaman dalam penerapannya di dunia militer.
